  • Akin Apologizes for His Rape comments

    I have a problem believing he is sincere. Politicians often say very stupid things and then apologize. They have to. If they do not apologize it is likely they will lose their job. So their motivation for apologizing is always in question.

    Do you think Todd Akin should be forgiven for his remarks about women who have been raped not being able to get pregnant?

    No. The irony is that while the Republicans are asking for his withdrawal, his female Democrat opponent wants him to remain in the race. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2012/08/20/162844/mccaskill-up-to-missouri-if-akin.html#storylink=cpy

    What does this say about her?

    Throw the public a bone like the dogs they are.

    The only reason his comments were chosen by Obama was because they would rile up the people against the Republican party– thus distracting the Republican party for a few weeks trying to go 'oh no we're not like THAT' when in fact they are and this apology (another metaphorical bone) is just the end knot to this whole thread.

    It's a circus. But at least one side is using things that have actually been said (which is more entertaining than using lies.)

    @Kellsbella - She probably wants him to stay in so he can continue to embarrass himself and the rest of the Republican party.    I like her style.

    Personally, I thing Akin should pull a Anthony Weiner on Twitter. It's like a freebie at this point.

    no. Akin is not a kid on a playground. this is an adult who has hawked these ideas for years. his crime was saying out loud what the republican agenda on women has been since the mid 1970s and he's not the first to have said this type of thing, not by a long shot.

    Chairman of the Republican National Committee Reince Priebus said about Akin's statement, "I wouldn't have said something so stupid." Actually that's not true Mr. Priebus. you continue to support Romney's VP choice, Paul Ryan who has not only held the same views on this issue as Akin. Congressman Ryan has worked together with Akin on this issue. Ryan co-sponsored a bill to redefine rape which had it passed would have greatly restricted a woman from claiming she was raped. Ryan co-sponsored a federal personhood bill which had it passed would have made it illegal for a woman to seek an abortion even in the case of rape and incest. Paul Ryan has been consistently outspoken on these women's issues and has consistently boasted of being the most right to life person in Congress. Mr. Priebus simply thinks Akin's statement was stupid because Akin gave away the plan.

    it's the same type of "mistake" made by GOP State Senator of Pennsylvania Mike Turzai made when he said the voter ID law "will allow Romney to win" Pennsylvania by keeping hundreds of thousands of likely democrat voters from being able to vote in his State. it's the same type of "mistake" Ohio republican county chairman made when he wrote in an email "I guess I really actually feel we shouldn’t contort the voting process to accommodate the urban — read African-American — voter-turnout machine." it's the same type of "mistake" that came out when former republican chairman Jim Greer, testifying under oath about a 2009 republican meeting with party officials "I was upset because the political consultants and staff were talking about voter suppression and keeping blacks from voting". voter suppression, just like the suppression of women's rights....the base of the republican party are simply making the mistake of showing their hand.

    @Kellsbella - I think she wants an easy victory.

  • Kellsbella

    @olwd - Yes, and she'll have it if the dork doesn't drop.

  • tendollar4ways

    @Kellsbella - A politician who wants to win is immoral? Also...I am pretty sure ALL Dems will be asking for the child molester to step down.

  • jaydedheart

    @Kellsbella - They'll do anything to win.

    @tendollar4ways - It's immoral if a better candidate could replace them. Surely, they both could be replaced by much better candidates. I'd randomly select a name out of a hat before picking either. At least there's a good chance that random person hasn't been bought and sold yet, and maybe they will refrain from doing so. Maybe. I'll take my chances, what is there to lose.

    Besides, it will help to balance out the misrepresentation of the population in the government. We'd end up with about 50% of each gender, there'd be whites, blacks, asians, latin americans, christians, muslims, jews, atheists, buddhists,, ect. People from all walks of life, rather than just all lawyers and some businessmen. Bring on the hat.

  • ShimmerBodyCream

    YEAH HE SEEMS NICE. Just because someone doesn't know about basic biology and doesn't care about women doesn't mean we shouldn't elect them to make decisions! ...

  • Twiztidsilverskull

    Only if he gets anally raped, by a woman with a huge ass strap on, and a dildo. Then a guy

  • Kellsbella

    @tendollar4ways - "A politician who wants to win is immoral?" Politicians seem to be immoral, in general, so there I can concede to you, Mr. Hamilton. As far as I know, the dems haven't asked Gauthier to withdraw yet....but they should. They should've attacked just the reps. did with Akin.

  • tendollar4ways

    @Kellsbella - http://www.minnpost.com/glean/2012/08/practically-everyone-tells-rep-gauthier-leave

    Google is this wonderful thing. You put a word or a name and out will pop not just one but LOTS of news stories and links from several sources and different newpapers and news organizations etc...

    I know you this will make it alot more difficult for you to say "As far as I know" then whatever the hell you feel like or want to beleive but....ya should try it!

    It is www.google.com

  • Jenny_Wren

    I am a republican, I believe abortion is morally wrong for the sake of the *child* (nothing against women at all. It could be men doing the incubating, and I would feel the same way)--but I think his words were cruel. Rape is rape. And it is a serious atrocity, no matter who it happens to--woman or man.

  • Jade_Orchid

    Nope. too late. It is already out there.
