he did go there but he has said in the past he believes President Obama was born in this country. still, his handlers are once again in damage control mode. "That was unscripted." "He went off-message." An unscripted Romney is a disaster.
Romney has played to the wing nut base on many occasions but this was especially stupid. he needed to play to them during the primary where every candidate was trying to prove they were farthest to the right. now however he doesn't need to appeal to birthers. they'd vote for Stalin if Stalin was running against Obama. he needs to appeal to centrist independents and he's failing miserably. Romney has trailed in over 80% of the polls over the past several months. each time he and his surrogates attack Obama on policy and record fact checkers pop the Romney balloon. in the week and a half following Romney's announcement that Ryan was his VP pick Romney and Ryan were caught telling 14 lies about both Obama's policies and their own policies so where does he go? he's still thinking of shoring up his base which is going to vote for him anyway even if they can't stand him and don't really trust him.
it brings up another point. i took Romney's statement as him making a joke but Romney's been running for President for 5 years. people still don't know who he is and what he stands for yet nobody has asked him to show his birth certificate while Obama has shown his yet is still being accused of being born elsewhere by birthers. that says something pretty ugly about birthers. actually there are some birthers who question where Romney was born as his family lived in Mexico. further, Obama has shown many years of his taxes. Romney is still refusing to do so and his wife in an interview said to Americans, "We've shown you people enough." over 60% of Americans believe they should know about his taxes. Romney called them "small-minded." those statements sound awfully haughty toward the American people to me.
one more noteworthy thing. 7 birthers have been chosen to speak at the republican convention including Trump. anyone who's lived in NYC knows most New Yorkers think of Trump as a blowhard who's gone through bankruptcy court like people change underwear.
The important thing here is that in Michigan the trees are the right height.
I think the oddest thing with this is that Romney now denies it had anything to do with Obama and the crazy birther theories. But if so, then what exactly was the joke?
More to the point, did anyone ask for his birth certificate? I did not think so, and I still do not believe Obama was born in the USA, which means he has broken US law.
Because Romney has about as much a sense of humour as a loaf of day-old bread.
One thing you have to admit about Obama, he rarely put's his foot in his mouth. As far as I can tell. Romney is barking up the wrong tree if he thinks he can outwit Obama with jokes. You could criticize Obama about a lot of things but talking is not one of them.
